Why We Built a Safety Can With a Built-In Faucet

If you've ever poured gasoline or diesel out of a standard safety can, you know the problem: you either tip the whole thing and hope for the best, or you find some other container to funnel it through. Neither is great. Tipping a full can risks spilling flammable liquid, and rigging up a funnel adds another step — and another point of failure — to something that's already hazardous.

That's the gap our new Safety Dispensing Can is built to close.


What Makes It a "Dispensing" Can, Not Just a Storage Can

Most safety cans are built for one job: holding flammable liquid safely until you need it. Ours does that too, but it also has a dedicated faucet mounted on the side or bottom, so you can pour a controlled amount directly into a smaller container — a test tube, a small tank, a parts washer — without tilting the can at all.

That matters more than it might sound. Every time you tip a full safety can to pour, you're working against gravity, vapor pressure, and your own grip strength all at once. A fixed faucet takes that variable out of the equation. You open the valve, you control the flow, you close it. No guessing how much is coming out or when it'll stop.


The Safety Features That Actually Do Something

We didn't just bolt a tap onto an existing can. A few things worth knowing:

The lid closes itself. It's spring-loaded, so if you let go of the handle mid-pour, it seals automatically instead of staying open and venting vapor into the room.

It vents pressure before it becomes a problem. Flammable liquids build internal pressure as they sit, especially in warm environments. Our pressure relief mechanism kicks in at 0.2–0.35 kg/cm² (roughly 3–5 psi) and releases that pressure gradually, rather than letting it build toward something worse.

The seams are built to not leak. The top and body are seamless — no weld line where liquid or vapor can work its way out over time. The bottom seam is non-welded by design, which sounds counterintuitive but is actually the more reliable construction method here.

The base is reinforced where it counts. There's a support shaft at the top and a ribbed pattern at the base, both centered so the can distributes weight evenly once it's full. A lopsided, unsupported can under 19 liters of liquid is a stress point waiting to happen — this design spreads that load out.

The finish holds up. Lead-free epoxy resin, baked on, so it won't chip or corrode from repeated handling in a workshop environment.

Sizes and Where Each One Fits

We're launching four configurations:

  • 2.5 gallon / 9.5 liter — sized for lab benches and workstations where you're dispensing smaller, more frequent amounts. Available in red or yellow.
  • 5 gallon / 19 liter — built for workshop and maintenance station use, where you're refilling equipment or transferring larger volumes. Also available in red or yellow.

Red and yellow aren't just cosmetic — using color to separate gasoline from diesel (or whatever two liquids you're handling side by side) is a simple way to cut down on mix-ups on a busy shop floor.

All four models are CE certified and built on an FM-approved Type I safety can structure.

One Thing to Check Before You Buy

These cans are built and tested for petroleum-based liquids — gasoline, diesel, mineral oil, lubricating oil, hydraulic oil, and similar products. If you're planning to store something outside that category, check the chemical compatibility of the tank body, seals, and coatings against your specific liquid first. We'd rather you ask us before you fill it than find out the hard way.


FAQ

What's the difference between a safety can and a safety dispensing can? A standard safety can is built to store flammable liquid securely. A safety dispensing can does that too, but adds a faucet so you can pour a controlled, measured amount directly into a target container without tilting the can.

Can I use this for diesel and gasoline in the same workspace? Yes — that's actually why we offer it in red and yellow. Many facilities use color coding to keep different liquids visually distinct and avoid cross-contamination or mix-ups.

Is it safe to store chemicals other than fuel or oil in these cans? Only after checking compatibility. The cans are designed and tested for petroleum-based liquids. For anything else, verify the chemical compatibility of the tank, seals, and coating first, or contact SYSBEL to confirm.

What certifications does it carry? All four models are CE certified and built on an FM-approved Type I safety can structure.
